Friday Night on the Field!

The old adage, “All things come to those who wait,” is certainly apropos for us today. After two years of planning, preparation, and execution, our South Campus Field Project is nearly complete. A very special thank you is extended to all of our generous donors, the support and guidance of our school Advisory Council, as well as our parish and diocesan consultants, Spurlock Landscape Architects, and contractor Sean Cogswell and Meridian Development.

On Friday, we will celebrate this major milestone by gathering together in community for friendship and fun. You are invited to bring your family and enjoy refreshments in the South Campus Courtyard, or up at the lunch tables beginning at 6:00 PM. Slices of pizza and burgers will be available for purchase (cash only and while supplies last) as well as chips, soda, popcorn, and candy (also cash only). You may also bring your own refreshments. At 6:30 PM, we will gather along the track for the Dedication, Blessing of the Field, and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. From 6:45 – 7:15 PM, everyone will have time to scope out the new field, toss a football, or run on the track. You may also set up your chairs for viewing Moana on the big screen, which will begin at dusk (approximately 7:30 PM).

To preserve our field, we ask that no food or drinks (other than water) be taken out on the turf. This includes gum, candy, and sunflower seeds. Lawn chairs are welcomed but spikes are not permitted. Pets (other than service animals) are prohibited as well. Finally, footwear with metal cleats or screw-in plastic cleats are not allowed.

A wonderful addition to this project is the inclusion of an amphitheater and shade sails which will provide further benefit. This portion of the project is not yet finished, but we are anticipating completion in 6-8 weeks.

Since its inception in 1964, St. Michael’s School has been a pillar of faith and education, not only in Poway and the surrounding areas, but also as a model in the diocese and beyond. Our excellence in academics, athletics, and fine arts is well recognized, and our new field accentuates our drive to remain the flagship institution for years to come.

I hope to see all of you on Friday to celebrate this great accomplishment!

In Mission, Kathy
