All the Glory to God

On Saturday, the Big Ten College Football Championship pitted favorite and top-seed Ohio State against second-seed Indiana. In a surprising win, Hoosier quarterback Fernando Mendoza catapulted his team to victory and cemented Indiana’s first championship in 50 years. The Hoosiers will play next in the Rose Bowl on January 1, 2026. Mendoza, who is a favorite in contention for the Heisman Trophy, tied his success to his faith stating, “I want to give all the glory to God.”

St. Michael’s School also had a string of successes this past weekend. Nighty-eight students participated in the cast and crew of Moana, our fall musical theater production. Two casts performed four shows to packed houses in the HFC, and their hard work was rewarded with praise and admiration from those in attendance.

On the athletic front, three of our flag football teams won their championship games over the weekend as well. On Friday, the 19th Annual Girls’ Flag Football tournament matched our Seventh Grade team against our Eighth Grade team in the championship game. Tied at 21-21 with three seconds remaining, the Eighth Graders ended up victorious. Then, on Saturday, our JV and Varsity Boys’ Flag Football teams won their tournaments at St. Augustine High School. For the Varsity team, this was the fourth consecutive championship win.

We are most grateful to our students for the hard work, dedication, and tenacity they demonstrated at each practice. We also acknowledge the teachers, staff, and parents who shared their talents and expertise to guide these young learners toward victories. But, above all, we would be remiss if we did not recognize that the talents each of us possess are gifted to us by a generous and loving God to whom we give thanks.

Today is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, and we gathered together as a school community honoring her role in God’s Kingdom. God gave Mary a most special gift; as the mother of Jesus, and throughout her life, she acted in service, gratitude, and humility. When our children are seeking heroes to emulate, they can always turn to Mary and the Saints. And, like Fernando Mendoza, they rely on their faith to guide them and never forget to thank Him for His generosity.

Deo Gratias, Kathy
