Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord

Dear Parents and Friends of St. Michael’s School,

Yesterday marked the beginning of a new liturgical year as we entered the Season of Advent. Over the next four weeks, we take time to prepare our hearts and minds for the coming of Christ at Christmas.

In our youth, the process of waiting is difficult, but as we grow and mature, we realize that sometimes the planning process is just as fulfilling as the actual event. Consider a family trip, a competition, or a concert, for example; much preparation must take place ahead of time in order for it to be successful. It is just as important to capture the joy in the build-up since the actual event often passes by so quickly. So, as we hang our decorations, bake cookies, and purchase gifts for loved ones, we not only reflect on Christmases past, recognizing that we are building upon prior memories, but we are also creating memories for the future. Christmas morning will come and go, but the traditions we carry forward will live on for a lifetime.

St. Michael’s School was established in 1964 by a small group of Irish Sisters of St. Clare. They likely could not imagine, in their planning and preparation, how this school would grow and flourish. When the Sisters of Mercy took charge in 1971, they built upon the solid foundation established, and created their own traditions. Today, we reflect on our heritage and look forward. The children who enliven our classrooms today will pass through quickly. Many years of planning and preparation took place to ensure their success, and now we look toward future generations who will benefit from this foundation – perhaps your children’s children will one day become Crusaders!

Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, a day for us to support worthy institutions that align with our values, through monetary donations. I hope that you will consider making a contribution to St. Michael’s School, to sustain our successes not only for today, but for many years in the future. You may choose the area that is most meaningful to you:

  • The Fund for St. Michael’s School: supports all of our educational programs as well as technology upgrades and major repairs

  • Security Upgrades: plans include automating our pedestrian and car gates, replacing perimeter fencing, upgrading and adding security cameras, and implementing a Crisis Alert System

  • South Campus Amphitheater: with our turf field project complete, we have begun work on the amphitheater and shade sails addition designed to enhance our sporting events as well as provide outdoor classroom space

  • St. Michael’s School Endowment Fund in Memory of Monsignor Joseph Finnerty: Msgr. Finnerty was the second pastor of St. Michael’s Parish from 1984-2001, and his commitment to Catholic education was paramount. This fund, named in his honor,

supports tuition assistance for St. Michael’s School students

Our graduates are making a huge impact in communities across the globe, and I am confident, with the foundation they are receiving at St. Michael’s School, that they will continue to do so for generations to come. I pray you will reflect on how God is calling you to financially support our school. May you be richly blessed for your kindness.

Deo Gratias, Kathy
